The 6 Days Nyungwe and Akagera NP safari offers the best of Rwanda chimpanzee and big 5 game encounters. You will visit 2 National Parks: Nyungwe Forest National Park (for chimpanzee tracking & canopy walk) and Akagera National Park to experience typical of African game drive.
The Itinerary
Day 1: Pick up & drive to Akagera |Eastern Province
After breakfast in the hotel or upon early arrival at Kigali Airport, meet the experienced driver guide for a short briefing. He will be the one to drive you to Akagera NP which is lying in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Get to the park early for relaxation or opt for evening game drive.
Day 2: Explore Akagera wildlife |Game drive & launch cruise
Delicious breakfast will be followed by 6:00 am game drive through the savanna plains lasting for 2-3 hours. This memorable game drive allows you to search for variety of wildlife including rhinos, leopards, lions, cape buffaloes, elephants, waterbucks, bushbucks, zebras, Maasai giraffes, and birds.
Join the afternoon Lake Ihema boat cruise 2-3 hours. Plenty of aquatic life will be sighted including hippos, crocodiles and water birds. Retreat and have leisurely dinner and overnight stay at pre-booked lodge.
Day 3: Kigali |city tour
Enjoy breakfast and after, drive back to Kigali –Africa’s cleanest city and you will have a city tour. This includes visiting historical or cultural sites: Kigali memorial center, Nyamirambo Women’s Centre, craft villages and Kimironko market.
Day 4: Kigali –Nyungwe |Butare city tour
Leave Kigali for 6-7 hours’ drive which is inclusive of stopover at Butare city to visit Nyanza Kings palace, national museum and other sites. After the city tour in Butare, have lunch before you go to check in at the lodge in Nyungwe Forest NP.
Day 5: Nyungwe Forest |Chimpanzee trekking & a canopy walk
A hefty breakfast early in the morning, and it will be followed by briefing about chimpanzee trekking rules. Today’s primate exploration involves trekking to see chimpanzees at Uwinka and other primates will also be viewed including the red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, black & white colobus monkeys, etc. Return from the forest and enjoy a leisurely lunch, then embark on canopy walk 2 hours. The park’s canopy walk is suspended about 60 meters from the ground and exploring it will be done with the lead of park ranger guides.
Day 6: Nyungwe Forest to Kigali
A relaxed breakfast and after, check out ready to make it back to Kigali. At Kigali, you will be dropped at the hotel or Kigali airport for departure, marking the end of the 6 days wildlife and primate expedition.
