Our 2 days Volcanoes NP gorilla trek is a special trip designed for you to explore Rwanda’s mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. This trip includes gorilla trekking experience in Volcanoes National Park in Musanze, Northwestern Rwanda. This 160 sq.km park is home to 30 percent of the mountain gorillas that live in the wild and comprises of 12 habituated families set for gorilla trekking.
Other than mountain gorillas, Volcanoes NP is also a valuable habitat to wildlife species such as golden monkeys, buffaloes, elephants, birds including paradise flycatcher, Rwenzori double collared sunbird, long-crested eagles, and more.
Once you have arrived at Kigali International Airport (KGL), meet our company guide who will be taking you through briefing and also transfer you to the park. If you get picked up at the hotel, you will have a morning city tour in Kigali to visit Kigali genocide center, craft villages and later settle for lunch before driving to Musanze. The Rwanda’s Volcanoes N/P is only 2-3 hours’ drive and you will be using a good 4×4 tourist vehicle.
Today’s safari highlight will be gorilla trekking and this begins early in the morning with briefing. The long day trek via the bamboo and tropical forest takes 2 to 6 hours but this includes one hour which is dedicated for a magical encounter with these apes in the wild. Within the bamboo and tropical forest-dominated park, there are 12 habituated families to be visited and you will be visiting one group.
After you have found a gorilla family and taken photos, begin walking back to the lodge. At the lodge, you will have early lunch and check out, then head back to Kigali capital –marking the end of a special two-day tour.
