Uganda is one of Africa’s most extraordinary safari destinations, offering rare wildlife encounters, dramatic landscapes, and authentic cultural experiences. Among the country’s most sought after adventures is gorilla trekking, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

This 3-day luxury fly-in safari combines the thrill of trekking in the ancient rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with peaceful relaxation at the stunning Lake Bunyonyi, often called the “Switzerland of Africa.” Starting from Entebbe International Airport, the journey is designed for travellers who want a short yet unforgettable luxury safari in Uganda.

Day 1: Scenic Flight to the Gorilla Highlands

You we’ll depart from Entebbe International Airport at 7:00 am or 10:30 am for a scheduled domestic flight from Entebbe to southwestern Uganda. The flight itself is part of the experience. As the aircraft climbs above Lake Victoria, you will enjoy breathtaking aerial views of Uganda’s rolling hills, lush countryside, and volcanic landscapes.

The plane lands at Kihihi Airstrip or Kisoro Airstrip, the gateway to the world-famous Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s oldest rainforests, estimated to be more than 25,000 years old. The forest is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, including more than 450 mountain gorillas, representing nearly half of the world’s remaining population of the endangered Mountain Gorilla.

Upon arrival, your safari guide transfers you through scenic villages and lush forest landscapes to your luxury lodge located near the park.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge while listening to the sounds of the forest. In some cases, gorillas even wander close to the lodge grounds.

Optional activities include community walks, cultural visits to the Batwa people, or guided forest walks around Nkuringo village.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – The Ultimate Wildlife Encounter

Today is the highlight of your safari: gorilla trekking. After an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing conducted by rangers from Uganda Wildlife Authority.

The guides explain the trekking rules and safety measures before leading you into the dense jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The trek can take anywhere from two – six hours, depending on where the gorilla family is located. Along the way, you will hike through thick vegetation, cross small streams, and enjoy sightings of birds, monkeys, and unique forest plants.

Then comes the moment everyone waits for encountering a gorilla family in the wild.

Standing just a few meters away from a group of majestic Mountain Gorilla is a deeply emotional experience. You will watch the gorillas interact with each other, mothers caring for their young, and the powerful silverback guarding the group.

Visitors are allowed one magical hour with the gorillas before trekking back.

After the trekking experience and our packed lunch, continue to the breathtaking Lake Bunyonyi, about a 2-3-hour scenic drive through the terraced hills of southwestern Uganda.
